PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release Contact: Chadelle Robinson Tuesday, July 11, 2007 505.647.4852 CARZALIA VALLEY PRODUCE ANNOUNCES GRAND PRIZE WINNER IN CARZALIA SWEET ONION COOKING COMPETITION Columbus, NM - Carzalia Valley Produce, home of the “Carzalia Sweet” onion, announce the grand prize winner of the 4th Annual Carzalia Sweet Onion Cooking Contest at Joe Perk Coffee Shop held July 7, 2007. Grand Prize Winner was awarded to Jane Hartsfield of Deming, New Mexico for her “Carzalia Sweet Pot Pie.” Cindy Williams also of Deming, New Mexico was the other winner for both her “Carzalia Sweet Onion Rubarb Crisp” in the Sweet/Sauce Category and her “Carzalia Sweet Tabouli” in the Side Dish Category. The contest was organized by members of the community and was judged on four categories: use of onion, flavor, presentation, and uniqueness. Entries competed in one of three categories; 1) Entree, 2) Side dish/sauce/soup, and 3) Sweet. Four unannounced judges blind tasted each entry and judged accordingly. Total number of participants was twenty-one. Kena Johnson of Carzalia Valley Produce, “we are very excited about the amount of participants and community support for this project. This was our fourth year for this contest and the support from the community has been over whelming. We are already making plans for next year’s competition.” All recipes are available on the Carzalia Valley Produce’s website at www.carzaliavalley.com.
